We have created this section in hopes that this information will help you to diagnose a problem you may be having. Read each section and try to match the issue you are experiencing with the descriptions below.

Clogged Toilet:

  • You flush the toilet and it overflows, fills, or drains very slowly.

  • When the toilets water level is higher than normal and you run water in the sink or tub in that same bathroom the water level in the toilet does NOT rise any higher(you would notice because it will overflow).

  • The rest of the plumbing in the home appears to function normally.

  • You have tried to plunge the toilet and it still will not go down as well as usual or at all.

  • You may here a “blub blub blub” sound or gurgling.

Clogged Sink:

  • When you run water in the sink it does not drain or it drains slowly.

  • You may here a “blub blub blub” sound or gurgling when water drains.

  • Fittings under the sink may leak water from them.

  • Black, dirty, or cloudy water may come up in the sink.

  • The sink does not fill any further when water is ran from fixtures in other areas of the home. *Please note in some homes running the upstairs shower/tub may cause the sink to fill if they are connected on the same line.

  • There are no other plumbing fixtures clogged other than the sink.

Main Sewer Line Blockage:

  • You are experiencing flooding from your laundry line, floor drain, the tub is full of black water, or water is leaking out from under the toilet.

  • One or more plumbing fixtures in the building is experiencing problems draining water slowly or not at all.

  • You have not recently pumped your septic tank possibly.

  • You have had a root problem or blockage in the past.

  • You may here a “blub blub blub” sound or gurgling coming from the pipes or walls.

  • One or more toilets may not flush properly or overflow when flushed.

Laundry Line Blockage:

  • When your washing machine drains it causes waste water to leak onto the floor from the laundry stand pipe.

  • When using water from other fixtures throughout the home it does not cause water to leak out from the laundry stand pipe in question.

  • If your laundry stand pipe is made from cast iron or galvanized steel it may cause clogs to form more frequently.

Shower/Tub Blockage:

  • When you take a shower or bath the water drains slowly or not at all. The water should not come up to the sides of your feet or ankles when the water is running.

  • All of the other drains in the building are draining fine and there is no kind of flooding/leaking occurring in other fixtures.

  • When flushing the toilet located in the same bathroom as the shower/tub in question the water does not come up from the shower drain.

Floor Drains:

  • Water drains slowly or not at all when flowing into the floor drain.

  • No plumbing fixtures are experiencing drain issues.

  • When you run the dishwasher/sink in your restaurant it floods out of the floor drain. *Please note that this can sometimes also be an indicator of a mainline clogged drain or a clogged grease trap.

Perimeter Drains:

  • Water is “ponding” in your yard or basement where it should be draining.

  • The water is clean, clear and appears to be ground water. There is no sign of toilet paper or feces in the water.

  • Your flooding or ponding worsens when it rains.

  • When you run a hose down your perimeter drain openings they overflow with water or drain slowly.
